 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    March 14, 2016 11:25 (Edited: February 17, 2023 04:19)
BEST TV
Best - UbiSoft: Yesterday. Having wasted a large chunk of my childhood on video games, this ad is an obvious favourite. It manages to extract believable emotions out of CG characters - never an easy task. And with the extraordinary amount of money at stake when launching these products, the level of difficulty in this category is off the scale. It sure beats Space Invaders.

Runner-up - Melbourne International Comedy Festival: Inside the Joke.
A writer and an art director walk into a bar. The writer says "Did you see that new spot for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival? I can't believe that scenario has never been used before!" The art director replies "Those @#$%&!"

BEST PRINT
Best - Oh My Dog Magazine. This print ad is simple and funny - definitely the most visually impactful print ad from this week's selection. I love the photography too! Just don't try this if you live in Australia, or you'll end up in prison with all the non-helmet wearing cyclists!

Runner-up - Lumen FM. Let's face it, it's pretty hard to get anyone to read a print ad these days, but this one does exactly that in a kind of "Where's Wally" way. There's no "copy" per se, but the detailed illustrations definitely appeal to music lovers like myself. Be sure to check out Angus Young, front and center.

BEST OUTDOOR
Best - Telekom: The Poster You Can Conduct. Of all the work featured this week, I was most blown away by this. It's the perfect use of both mobile and OOH wireless technology, and the feel-good factor for this big, boring telco is off the charts. Definitely one I wish I had done.

Runner-up - Young Minds for Gender Equality Foundation: The Business Bulge. Although not strictly "outdoor", I really like the ridiculousness of this campaign. In fact, in an attempt to secure a 20% pay rise for my wife, I even went to getabulge.com to order her a "Business Bulge Skirt". But alas, maybe she can get one at Macy's?

BEST INTERACTIVE
Best - Pink Ribbon: Check It Before It's Removed. So many social media campaigns fall short of the mark, but this one succeeds where the others have failed. Using the social media "terms of use" is something I haven't seen before, and the sense of urgency this creates is brilliant. However, when I first saw this appear in my newsfeed, the Facebook police removed it in only a matter on minutes, so I wonder how many people failed to see it altogether.

Runner-up - Samsung: #BeFearless of Public Speaking. No one hates Samsung phones more than me, so it pains me to select this as a runner-up. Samsung now really owns this VR territory and just when I think they've run out of ideas, they create another incredibly useful and engaging campaign like this. It's great advertising for a terrible phone.
