Katherine Town Council: Pickemup Pete
Katherine Town Council is home to some of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes. Unfortunately the local communities have struggled to keep the area clean with a massive littering problem. Research told us that TikTok and music videos on social media were hugely popular in the community with many people consuming huge amounts of video on their phones. So we partnered with local aboriginal rapper Kamahi Djordan King and Triple J Unearthed beat boxer Tom Thum to create five separate 30 second music videos that when played together made one full length music video. Tom Thum created the backing track, made using his beat boxing skills, along with samples of wheelie bin lids closing, bottles being dropped and rubbish falling into bins. Kamahi wrote original lyrics in Kriol for the local community. We got busy designing a brand new character inspired by Katherine Town Council’s yearly junk festival. We storyboarded the dance moves and actions that our new character; Pickemup Pete would perform and got to work 3D animating him.
