SAFE SPACES ACT: Right The Ride
The Philippine jeepney is a well-loved cultural symbol that is unique to the country. It is the Philippines’ main mode of public transportation. Used every day by Filipinos in their daily commute and the most visible Filipino icon outdoor. But behind the bright colors and vibrant decor that make it iconic lie a pressing problem that has been overlooked for many years: misogyny and sexism. Outside, jeepneys are adorned with sexist decor. Inside, it gets even worse. Politically incorrect and offensive signages are considered funny and witty. Every inch of the jeepney is rife with disrespect to women. Misogyny must not have a place in modern society. And particularly not in a beloved cultural symbol. The Commission on Human Rights together with Wunderman Thompson Philippines aim to correct this notion and steer Philippine jeepneys in the right direction with the #RightTheRide campaign.
