As a way of showing the benefits associated with cork flooring, Amorim Cork Flooring recreated an area of the surface of Mars, on Earth, and invited Scott Kelly, a former NASA astronaut with the record for the most days in space, to be the first to step on it. Amorim Cork Flooring is the world leader in the cork flooring market and a benchmark in terms of sustainability and innovation in the sector. With the aim of communicating that walking on cork is walking on a naturally evolved material, with high performance in terms of thermal and acoustic insulation, air purification, fire resistance, impermeability, shock absorption and as a way of bringing this material closer to the universe of design trends, ACF launched a worldwide campaign with strategy and creativity from Lisbon based creative shop, Stream and Tough Guy. Based on the concept “Walk on Amazing”, the campaign focuses on conveying the unique benefits of cork floors, with emphasis on the factor that has the most weight in the purchase decision, design. Until the campaign, ACF had 17,000 floor designs in its portfolio, now it has 17,001 (Mars). Using satellite images in orbit around Mars and images captured by a rover, an area of about 600 m2 of Mars was printed on cork and ex-astronaut and NASA commander Scott Kelly was invited to walk on this surface for the first time. Scott Kelly has accounted for more than 500 days in space, but has never set foot on an extra-terrestrial surface. Born between the generation that went to the moon and the generation that will, in fact, go to Mars, Scott Kelly had the opportunity to “Walk on Amazing” without having to travel millions of kilometres. The film that tells us how it all happened suggests to viewers that they can be the second ones to walk on Mars, as they can purchase this design on the brand's website.
