The anticipation is well and truly building for Super Bowl LVII, and brands have begun to share sneak peaks at their exciting campaigns for this year’s game of games. Celebrities and famous fictional characters are certainly no stranger to brand marketing at the Big Game, but it’s always exciting when you get to see some of your favourite roles being reprised - even just for a 30-second spot. Frito-Lay brand ‘PopCorners’ recently shared two teasers for its Super Bowl spot, which will feature Breaking Bad’s Walter White and Jesse Pinkman - played by Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, respectively - almost a decade after the iconic AMC show aired its final episode. The snippets show Walter and Jesse bickering as they travel through the desert in their trusty RV - a visual that will bring back a ton of nostalgia for viewers of the show. The teasing for PopCorners’ Super Bowl campaign began with an initial 15-second spot that saw Aaron Paul’s Jesse Pinkman character sitting in a chair and eating White Cheddar PopCorners as he admires the sun setting below the dust bowl horizon. Beside him, is an empty chair and the infamous meth-lab RV - hinting at the reappearance of Bryan Cranston’s beloved Walter White character, who was finally revealed in the latest teaser. As well as PopCorners, other PepsiCo and Frito-Lay snack brands are also participating in the Super Bowl frenzy in 2023. Just last week, Doritos confirmed fan speculation and revealed that rapper Jack Harlow would be starring in its commercial. But the star power doesn’t stop there. The tortilla chip brand has also confirmed that it will be bringing the rapper, singer-songwriter, producer and all-around legend of the music business Missy Elliott to the Big Game. In the new teaser titled ‘Collab’, Missy Elliott is seen on the phone with whom viewers can assume to be Jack Harlow on the other end. She’s excited to ‘collab’ with Jack but seemingly he brings up a ‘love triangle’ - which causes Missy to have some doubts about the situation. The teaser abruptly ends leaving viewers questioning what this ‘love triangle’ means, as the Doritos logo and the date of the Super Bowl are displayed on-screen. Will the Queen of Rap be up for trying another angle? Only time will tell what this talented musical duo has up their sleeves. And who knows what kind of danger and capers Walter White and Jesse Pinkman will get up to in PopCorners’ ‘Breaking Bad’ spot? We’ll have to wait until kickoff on February 12th to find out.
