About:
A Million Girls Foundation.ensures that girls across Africa experience uninterrupted schooling during their menstruationBackground. Problem: Period poverty statistics estimate that seven million South African girls cannot afford to buy sanitary products, and one in 10 girls either miss school or drop out completely during their periods. This absence from school can accumulate to as much as 20% of a school year. Moreover, attending school while menstruating often exposes many girls to teasing from their peers, while teachers may not consider periods as a significant enough reason to justify missing school. Creative Execution: Truth is, a girl born into poverty will brave hunger, violence, difficult terrain, weather and more, just to go to school. But the same child is likely to miss school during her period. Through a social audio series that lived on our social media platforms, we created compelling audio stories featuring girls triumphantly navigating through challenging circumstances to attend school every day. This journey goes beyond a simple walk to school; it tests their human character. Throughout this narrative, their primary objective remains consistent: to pursue education and build a better life. However, their schooling is often disrupted by menstruation.
