Just as in the UK, "rhyming slang" flourishes in Australian pub vernacular. In local rugby league circles, the rhyming slang for "Try" is "Meat Pie" - which made Four'N Twenty's Rugby League Grand Final message in Sydney's Sunday Telegraph on the morning of the match rather obvious and irresistible - like our pies. Incidentally, the scorer of the winning "meat pie" that night was Penrith Panthers' Nathan Cleary.
