Abandoned fishing nets make up 80% of marine debris in India, devastating marine life and their natural habitat.
Abandoned basketball nets abound in courts across India. Many hidden female talents remain unseen.
The NBA is making an impact on sea and land by introducing a meaningful initiative, titled, “Nets for Change”.
This initiative is a dual impact initiative as it aims to revive India’s seas and marine habitats, one neglected net at a time, and it is also enabling young female talents, one neglected hoop at a time.
The nets were taken from the seas, cleaned, repurposed, reconstructed to fit hoops, and installed across neglected basketball courts in India. And on those courts, the NBA organized trainings for young female talents with NBA coaches.
These games also educated the communities on the importance of keeping our oceans clean.
The initiative has travelled across social media and has attracted endorsement from celebrities including Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh.
The NBA is now aiming to implement this initiative globally, giving more neglected nets and girl talents a new life on courts across the world.
