In Bangladesh, elections have become a popular culture, where every candidate strives to catch voters' attention.
During the National Election, political leaders run major campaigns and flood the streets with over 75 million posters.
However, once the election is over, these posters not only linger throughout the city but accumulate on the grounds causing waterlogs and hampering the beauty of our communities.
Bidyanondo, one of the largest NGOs in Bangladesh comes forward with an ingenious insight - election posters are printed on one side, leaving a blank canvas on the other.
What if this waste can be transformed into something meaningful?
Bidyanondo proudly presents – Election Poster Notebooks! an initiative to turn posters into notebooks.
On the day the election ended, Bidyanondo volunteers went to the streets collecting election posters and cleaning the streets in the process.
The posters which can be reused were binded and turned into notebooks and the unusable ones were repurposed to make recycled paper.
News of the initiative went viral.
Seeing this initiative, the local city corporation was compelled to collect and recycle posters, cleaning the streets in one day. And the political parties voluntarily donated extra, unused posters to be made into notebooks.
Bidyanondo has turned its simple idea into a powerful movement, generating a massive PR
By cleaning up the streets and by providing essential tools for education to countless children in need, Bidyanondo has crafted a heartwarming story of turning waste into something beautiful.
