Fernando Amorsolo is recognized as the First National Artist of the Philippines. Considered the Rembrandt of the Philippines, he is the only local artist referred to by one name. He painted prodigiously during the 1920s and 1930s, through the War and up until his death in 1972. The Vargas Museum is known for having the country’s largest collection of authenticated Amorsolos.
