Giving us a new way to procrastinate and wile the hours away, Big Spaceship recently launched The Most Awesomest Thing Ever, a website that pits two items, people or icons against each other (footie pajamas vs. Kelly Clarkson?), tallying user votes to compile a dynamic list of…The Most Awesomest Things Ever. Today’s awesomeness? The internet, A nap, Technology, Life, Lightsaber (Real). While the site’s art direction takes you back to the 80s, and its scroll-over audio tracks are more reminiscent of 90s web design, it’s more contemporary in its interactivity, allowing users to suggest items of “awesomeness”, provided they submit their email, a Wikipedia link to describe the submission, and a Wikipedia-based image. Is the site a joke? A contribution of sheer delight and procrastination to the digital population? A publicity stunt? Or a well-veiled teaser for branded campaign work soon to be revealed? In the meantime, it’s a great way to shave off some workday frustration.
