Years ago, surfers were traveling down the rugged Baja coast, looking for the perfect wave. What then ended up finding was the perfect beer: Pacifico. The surfers felt the beer embodied their laid back lifestyle, so they loaded a few cases into their VW buses and brought it back to the U.S. Since then, Pacifico has established an extremely passionate fan base in Southern California. But just like the original surfers, the beer has always been about exploring new places. So over the past couple of years, Pacifico has expanded into other markets, bringing the brand to cities all the way from Seattle to New York.

To celebrate the expansion, Pacifico’s advertising agency, GSD&M created The State of Pacifico, an interactive map on Pacifico’s Facebook page featuring off the beaten path places. How the agency went about discovering these spots was true to the Pacifico spirit. They teamed up with a small production company and traveled the country on a bus, stopping along the way to document their most unique and interesting finds. These places included everything from remote mud caves in the middle of the California desert to a hidden skate park under an expressway in Chicago. While the road trip is just wrapping up now, the story is far from finished. The plan is to build on The State of Pacifico for years to come, making the map a destination for people looking to visit places that don’t get a lot of visitors. Web banners, print, out of home murals and wild postings also complement the site and carry the freestyle spirit of the brand.
