In 1985 TSB Bank faced a choice. Bow to immense pressure from the Government of the day, and the wants of New Zealand's twelve other smaller independent banks, and all merge together.

TSB Bank knew this wouldn't be in the best interests of their customers - so they said 'no'.

It was a decision that defined them and made them the customer service centred success they are today.

As for the other banks? Well that's another story with a less happy ending...
