Formula One driver and 2008 World Champion Lewis Hamilton is used to having people in his ear while driving although usually it's talking strategy or wing ratio at 180mph, not how many pieces of popcorn you can fit in your mouth at 30.
But that's exactly what happened to the Mercedes AMG Petronas driver as he was tasked by team partner Allianz with performing the school run near his team’s Brackley base. The film, which was created by ad agency Grey London and is completely unscripted, sees Lewis pick up the rather chatty Lauren and Jessica and discuss everything from their favourite animals to how sour gobstoppers can be. They even sing him a song they've written especially for the occasion. And it doesn't take long for the usually super-cool and composed Lewis to be rendered speechless – and somewhat bemused by the girls' non-stop chattering. For someone used to being the star of the show, he certainly takes a backseat if not literally to the bubbly duo. The film follows research from Allianz that shows 42% of parents claim that always being in a rush is their top school run worry, while one in five parents get distracted by their children while driving them to school. Lewis – who was asked by Allianz to provide his take on just what a challenge the school run can be, even for professional drivers used to facing tough situations – said: “I can certainly understand how parents could find the school run stressful. Jess and Lauren were great fun but they were very chatty – so I had to make sure I remained focused on driving throughout the journey!”
