To aid the environmental organization MillionTreesNYC, TD Bank will turn the majority of its New York City storefronts (115 of them) into micro art galleries. Ten fine artists, all with NYC connections, have each been commissioned to create an original, tree-themed painting, photograph or, in one case, sculpture, for display and for charitable sale at three pop-up galleries around the city. The nine two-dimensional pieces are reprinted, unbranded (on recyclable, compostable vinyl, using soy-based inks) at sizes up to 8’ x 8’, to go in the bank’s storefront windows, with specific locations for each artist chosen based on biographical relevance (lived in the neighborhood, painted something nearby, etc.). Beside each work is a gallery-style lucite panel with artist info and quotes. In addition, free poster-sized reproductions will be given out at bank branches and via Twitter.
