In the 1980’s, thousands of mestizo-Peruvians migrated from the countryside to the capital, Lima, fleeing terrorism and poor economic conditions at home, only to face adversity and contempt in the nation’s biggest city. The "anthem" of this segment of the population was a suffering song called “Country Boy,” sung by "Chacalón", who was called by his fans The Pharaoh of Chicha Music ("Peruvian Cumbia"). This song depicted the pain and struggle to build a better future in a hostile environment, home away and only resorting to a strong sense of entrepreneurship. 30 years later, these entrepreneurs have helped build a whole new country where provinces are booming and new generations don't have to flee to the capital anymore. On the contrary, they might well be experiencing a better life at home. And to reflect this new zeitgeist, we decided to update the lyrics.
