A 15m tall Sticky Man character made out of Post-it's was required to move across buildings in downtown JHB

Creative Commentary
------------------------------------
It took about 1 million Post-it’s, 90 314 digital photographs using 2 terabytes of storage, 4.9 kilometers of 35mm film, 3 weeks of editing, 2 months of 3D animation and 1 month of compositing to produce this 60 second commercial. Shot in downtown Johannesburg over 5 days, this is probably one of the most technically and creatively challenging films, from a production point of view, to ever come out of South Africa.
The 15m tall Sticky Man character design required around 12 000 Post-its (stickies). But the agency’s script called for the Sticky Man to move across buildings. This is where the production really got time consuming, needing intense attention to detail. In order to create the appearance of the Sticky Man moving, a photograph of his position was taken. Then all the stickies are removed and replaced in a slightly new position and another photo was taken. This process is repeated over and over again. When all the photographs are played back as a sequence, the eye is tricked into seeing movement. Logistically, this was not possible on many of the shots, so a lot of it was done in 3D.
