World Humanitarian Day: The Reflection

Top 6: August 29th 2018
This World Humanitarian Day, a ‘living petition’ will use selfies to remind leaders that the world is watching what’s happening with civilians and aid workers in conflict zones. Last year, three out of four victims in conflict zones were civilians. The number goes as high as almost 32,000 people—38% higher than last year. This alarming statistic is fueling the new United Nations’ #NotATarget campaign that calls for world leaders to take action and protect the civilians in conflict zones. And to get more participation, the UN, its agency VML New York and production partners Missing Pieces and Standard Transmission are reinventing how petitions are made. No signatures. No forms. But something that shows much more commitment—people’s own images—their selfies. The ‘living petition’ is calling global Citizens to ‘sign’ with their selfies at WorldHumanitarianDay.org.
