Rustlers is releasing a feature length German arthouse film created by Droga5 London and production company Lief to mark the 150th anniversary of the hamburger. The Hamburger is played by renowned character actor Paul Faßnacht, who starred in ‘The Lives Of Others’. Though a number of different theories exist relating to its precise origins, the hamburger is believed by many to originate from Hamburg resident, Otto Kuase, circa 1869. ‘The Seas Between Us’, directed by Katharina Behrens, celebrates the city of Hamburg’s world-famous culinary export in a 72 minute, historically accurate biopic. In the film, The Hamburger, is personified as a German immigrant on his deathbed recanting the story of how he set sail to America to make his fortune, to a documentary filmmaker. As he describes the odds he overcame, the narrative is intercut with an account from his son of the sorrow inflicted by his absent father. The film grapples with themes of hubris, the pitfalls of absent parenting and the ugliness of fame.
