Odelay Films’ director Ben Falk’s new film for Marie Curie presents a brave and thoughtful journey of emotions. The film titled ‘Legacies’, focuses on real life conversations around end of life and grief. Dealing with such a sensitive subject is never easy, and even harder when filming real people talking about their personal loss. Sharing stories about the end of life could be both awkward and uncomfortable. However, Ben captures these heartbreaking and deeply personal conversations, with flashes of optimism and even humour. The spot takes us on a visual journey through tears, sadness and reflection, before leading us toward feelings of optimism, hope and at times laughter. The message of giving is clear, by leaving a legacy to Marie Curie in your will you can help deliver comfort and peace of mind to so many. Casting the film was handled with the utmost care, working closely with casting director Anna McAuley and Marie Curie Ben searched for people that would feel comfortable talking about their experiences and bringing their emotions into the public realm whilst also reflecting the vast array of folk that make up British culture. It was clear from the start that everyone involved should feel safe and nurtured, and the creation of a comfortable environment for all concerned was paramount. Ben, along with the Odelay production team, The Good Agency and Marie Curie worked hard to make everyone feel at ease on the day ensuring he was able to capture truly relatable and natural moments.
