Sustainable Coastlines: Trash Species of Aotearoa New Zealand

New Zealanders have grown up with the iconic fish poster that adorns the walls of every fish n chip shop, celebrating our plentiful and diverse sea life. But these fish are now sharing their ocean home with many unwanted visitors - The Trash Species of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Using the data collected from Sustainable Coastlines’ Litter Intelligence surveys, we re-created this iconic poster, calling out 21 of the most common trash species found.
Crafted by renowned New Zealand wildlife artist, Erin Forsyth in watercolour illustrations, we gave a trashy twist to the Kiwi icon, encouraging Kiwis to dispose of their litter responsibly and prevent the trash species from taking over the oceans.
