Earth Hour: CandleTop 6: April 1st 2009
Plaza Films and Leo Burnett, Sydney have collaborated to produce the latest Earth Hour film- a 60" and 90" spot called 'Candle' that will air nationally on free-to-air TV and cable on Saturday 28 March, followed by cinema and internet release over the following week.
The commercial, written by Leo Burnett creative Gary Dawson and directed by Plaza's Nick Robertson, brings to life the spirit of Earth Hour and the essence of a global event that everyone can participate in by showing people coming together to cover their apartment block in sheets. As we see people stitch, borrow and steal sheets to place over their balcony we reveal that they’ve quite literally turned their home into the world’s largest candle and a communal symbol of hope-summing up the message that 'None of us are as powerful as all of us' and urging people to switch off their lights on March 28 at 8.30 pm. Says Leo Burnett, Sydney joint ECDs Andy DiLallo and Jay Benjamin: "It's easy for people to be overwhelmed by the subject of climate change. The aim of this script was to turn that on its head. It's oozing with positivity. It makes people feel that when they come together anything can be accomplished. It gives them comfort that they aren't in it alone. And let's face it, we're after 1 Billion people this year, so no one's really in it alone. Nick Robertson and Plaza Films were the perfect partners for the project. In the spirit of the script, they jumped on board and moved mountains. It’s a beautiful film that will be a tremendous addition to WWF’s case at the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen."
