SCOPE: See the personTop 6: April 6th 2011
To promote Scope’s ‘See the person, not the disability message’ Leo Burnett, Melbourne found local Melbourne band Rudely Interrupted, in which five of the six members live with physical and intellectual disability. We released their single, and they become a powerful audio demonstration of our message. The song was aired on National radio, where people couldn’t see the band, they could only hear the music. This forced audiences to judge the music, rather than the people making it. It was only at the end of the track that the announcer’s live read revealed that 5 of the 6 band members live with disability, reinforcing Scope’s message: see the person, not the disability. It aired Nationally on over 50 radio stations.
