BEST TVAs former clowns we both felt deeply for the circus performers in the
Brother P-Touch ad. It is how we got most of our scars at a particularly rowdy circus beer tent in Bulgaria. Also it made us laugh. At the other end of the spectrum
MTV Exit is beautiful and the execution is unexpected and simple. I am sure we will hear more from this piece as the award shows roll up.
BEST PRINTNot a great week for print. A bit like judging the tallest dwarf competition. And the prettiest dwarf this week is the one with the most craft. So well done
Unesco: Testament. Second place goes to
LG Washing Machine: Blue.
BEST OUTDOOR Hello to the okes in Slaapstad (South African joke). Nice to see an outdoor piece that uses its environment to influence its environment in real time. Fresh piece. So
Safety Lab gets first place. The rest maybe one level down conceptually also a few ideas we have seen before. We gave second place to
Heineken because you don't often see sound being used in outdoor so we thought that was interesting. Executive Search in Vilnius: lyderyst?s mokymai vadovams, kou?ingas, vadov?, darbuotoj? paieĀka ir atranka
www.primumesse.lt/BEST INTERACTIVEInteractive is a very interesting and vague word. You could almost enter anything into it. So, a tricky category to judge. 1st place goes to
Ikea. You can't go onto the internet without hearing how cool Airbnb is. So a great thought to use them to essentially get people to test drive their beds in store. Second place was tough but
Bacardi gets it for a level of craft you don't see that often these days. And hey, who doesn't love a comic.
This week's guest judges are Damon Stapleton, chief creative officer and Shane Bradnick, executive creative director at DDB New Zealand.
Damon and Shane have known each other for almost 20 years. They began life as a remarkably underpaid team in Johannesburg, South Africa. Both would work for DDB and TBWA in South Africa. To escape Damon's good looks Shane immigrated to Australia. Here he became ECD of BMF, the Australian agency of the Decade. In 2006, Damon went on to become ECD of TBWA Hunt Lascaris the legendary South African agency that similarly was also named Agency of the Decade. In 2011 Damon moved to Sydney to run Saatchi and Saatchi Sydney. As soon as Shane heard this he left the country and moved to DDB Auckland where he is currently ECD. In 2014 Damon became Chief Creative Officer at DDB Auckland. Shane and Damon now stare at each other across an empty room just like they did 20 years ago. Shane is now looking at offers from agencies in Fiji.
Between them, they have over 200 international awards with more than 50 Cannes Lions including the Cannes Grand Prix and multiple Gold Lions, a D&AD Black Pencil as well as multiple yellow pencils, One Show and One Show Entertainment Gold pencils, the Clio Grand Prix and the first ever awarded ADC Black Cube.
More importantly though, with time spent in South Africa, Australia and now New Zealand they also have a pretty good chance of supporting the team that could win The Rugby World Cup in 2015.
