BEST TV1st
Old Spice Dadsong' - Easy winner. Fun film. Great idea. I like the drama between the mums and dads (or is that moms and dads?), and the little insight around that transition from boy to man through your choice of deodorant is spot on. It's true and it's timeless. More nice smelling stuff from Old Spice. Good work gang.
2nd '
Canal Digital Silver Hand' - Casting, casting, casting. It maketh the ad. A simple story, well told. I knew where it was going 10 seconds in, but it didn't matter. I enjoyed every second that followed, and the fact it was in Norwegian with subtitles added to the humour (I'm not sure if that was intentional?)
BEST PRINT1st VW '
Road' - Arresting visual, nicely shot. This would stop me on the page, and the payoff is neat and not over-explanatory.
2nd '
Barbie' - Good flip. Made me look twice, and I admit the idea sparked a little "hmmm, maybe Barbie isn't just a mutated doll with over-sexualised proportions quietly eroding the self-esteem of millions of little girl's..." thought in my head. I still need some convincing though. Be interested to see if this strategy goes anywhere for Mattel, beyond just an ad.
BEST OUTDOOR 1st '
Quebec City Magic Festival' - Made me smile. I wish they hadn't shown me how they did it though... some things are best kept a secret.
2nd '
Honda Fit Funnel' - Yeah, why not? One of the oldest briefs in the world, told in a new way. Something vaguely Pixar about it. Like.
BEST INTERACTIVE1st Canal Sony Brazil '
Voice' - I'd be happy if The Corner had made this. Smart use of YouTube. Smart use of 5 secs. Smart use of interaction. Can't fault it. Well done you Brazilians.
2nd - I'm going to go for
Operation X. It looks like fun, and that WCRS are a talented bunch. Got to be better than a Uniqlock rip-off and a french fry theft detection app... Really? Give me Candy Crush Soda Saga any day of the week.
