Guest Judge: Luissandro Del Gobbo, CCO, Havas, Milan

 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    March 20, 2023 20:52 (Edited: March 21, 2023 07:52)
BEST TV
Winner: DISCO 'Law Better'. A great script with all the right elements; funny characters, jokes with good timing, and an unlikely protagonist - Lady Justice itself - getting rid of outdated legal tech while suggesting professionals to take off their blindfold about the use of A.I. in law. A nice piece of comedy with an all-around good acting performance.

Runner-up: Zijkant - Equal Pay Day 'It's Handy to Have a Dick'. An interesting and unexpected way of tackling such an important topic. Shaking hands through the zipper of their pants while tying trust to "Dicks" shows in a symbolic, surreal yet very straightforward way how unfair and annoying the workplace system still is on women. Outlandish, yet very real.

BEST PRINT
winner: Koala 'Conception Promotion'. An unconceivable promotion that plays on provocation to get people interested. Surely a very different take on classic media surrounding furniture, which is usually known for not being such an exciting category. I wonder what these guys may have in store for their next promotion.

Runner-up: McDonald's 'Chaplin'. A light change of pace from the traditional McDonald's advertisements, yet a pretty classic campaign. Revolving mainly around bright colors, they set up a quite interesting and playful way of highlighting the arrival of a product that makes the fast food chain's menu a little less boring.

BEST OUTDOOR
Winner: Tesco 'Howaya Dublin'. This outdoor piece is the epitome of what a good classic billboard used to be. A clever way of involving passers-by and a piece of signage ushering people to the store. All done with some great real time copywriting. A creative tactical ad with good conversion, I would think.

Runner-up: Fire and Emergency New Zealand 'You're Cooked - Emergency Bib'. I was unaware of the frightening statistics of house fires in New Zealand. To know that 50 percent of them are caused by the dabbling in cooking by people who are drunk and on drugs is even more terrifying. The campaign addresses this issue in a light-hearted yet attention-grabbing way. The bib is definitely an important piece of the campaign that brings awareness to the issue, but I think the highlight here is the book of recipes that can be performed while still under the influence because they do not involve stoves or ovens. Brilliant.

BEST INTERACTIVE
Winner: Grand Frais 'Swing The Copycat'. A good piece in the interactive category, a great example of generosity. The most blatant rip-off campaign ever suffered by a brand pushed Grand Frais to offer their ad for free to any brand that wanted to use it. And funnily enough many brands actually did. With no shame. If there were a Cannes category for the most plagiarized ad, Grand Frais would win hands down.

Runner-up: Spotify India 'The Unheard Playlist'. A simple and clever use of Spotify to show how important and often underestimated the contribution of women musicians is. A playlist of Popular duet songs with no female singer voice singing their part was created to surprise the audience and make them think. A way of underlining how the voice of women singers is much more than just a simple stem.
