As the UK prepares to enter 2021, British bank TSB has launched a new advertising campaign created by McCann London. It stars David Schwimmer encouraging the nation to achieve personal financial confidence and get the most out of life. The films were produced by Biscuit and shot by world-leading comedy director Jeff Low. The launch supports a new brand purpose developed by TSB around the idea that money confidence helps build life confidence. The new McCann work marks a departure for TSB, as they shift away from using animation in their advertising for the first time since the 1980s. Following 9 months of global pandemic, a new “real-world” lens uses empathy and humour to help them communicate more effectively with customers. Shot in October, just before the UK’s second lockdown, the films show Schwimmer travelling around the UK in a camper-style van, celebrating the things that bring British people joy, and interacting with the people he meets, with varying degrees of success. The much-loved Anglophile has a long history with the UK, enabling him to view our idiosyncrasies with a quirky, empathetic eye. From flexible loans to their new Spend and Save Account, each film highlights one of TSB’s market-leading products. While the AV campaign is supported by OOH and online work celebrating those “Life Made More” moments that a little financial confidence can afford. All creative was written and art directed by Ben Buswell and Jo Griffin, with support from Richard Holmes and Simon Lotze, while the media was handled by the7stars. Schwimmer gained worldwide recognition in the sitcom Friends, was nominated for his second Emmy for his role in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, and most recently stars in the Sky TV comedy series INTELLIGENCE, for which he also serves as Executive Producer.
