BEST TVWinner:
Hornbach: Regret Nothing. Hats off to the crew who keep making work that's completely bananas for this hardware mega-store in Germany. I would love to work on one of these briefs. What I particularly like about this spot is that it doesn't go half way. You could easily see the client asking for the humour to be sweeter, softer, but the kid looks genuinely distressed and the man's face looks seriously banged up. These are the small but critical details that make it good, and wonderfully dark.
Runner up:
Dominos: Home for Pizza. Great little cameo from Alan Ruck made this Ferris Bueller homage even more enjoyable. I always get asked whether 'the kids' will get such an old reference, but I know, for example, that my 11 and 7 year old have seen this film multiple times. So based on my research group of two, I think 'the kids' will like it.
BEST PRINTWinner:
Amnesty International. Sure, good charity print always feels a little easier to pull off, but this is such a great idea, really well expressed and I liked it a lot, and I'm this week's judge, and there's nothing you can do about it.
Runner up:
Movistar: Guard. This charming print ad made me really care for the Costa Rican guard rolling sushi in the middle of the night while watching Movistar. I like him. He is a good man. I wish him well in his life.
BEST OUTDOOR Winner:
Dove: Dove is in the Air. Have to admit, this category confused the hell out of me, but my simple, child-like brain was drawn to floating doves in an Antwerp train station.
Runner up:
Air New Zealand: Honolullabys. Umm, planes fly outdoors, so this is my runner up in the outdoor category, because sleep is amazing, and anything that facilitates sleep is therefore amazing.
BEST INTERACTIVEWinner:
Don vs Don. I like the notion that building something good also serves to destroy something bad, and anything that helps curtail the orange clown's destructive ideology will always get my vote.
Runner up:
Adblocker Plus and Google Words: Unblock to donate. Give to charity and save our jobs in the process. Thanks.
BEST RADIOWinner:
Boycott Digital Agency: Real Life. I have no idea what this is for - which probably isn't a great thing - but it was just amazingly weird and funny and a great audio metaphor for the way people behave on social media.
Runner up:
Belo Men: Breathe. What starts off as the history of record breaking breath-holders becomes and ad for deodorant. I enjoyed the twist.
This week's guest judge is Eric Quennoy, executive creative director, Wieden&Kennedy, Amsterdam.
Eric has made some nice ads, collected some awards, won some new business, and made some great case studies which boast of outrageously big viewing numbers. He likes his job most of the time, but much prefers time with his wife and two boys.
