BEST TVSo many great spots to choose from.
First place:
iPhone 11 Pro. Clear winner. The cinematography. The buzz it generated. I shared it on my social media accounts when I saw it last week. It's the clear winner for film. It embraced vertical films. It's really hard to convince client to do this kind of thing but I guess Apple is Apple. (Wait...where's the Fortnite video? But anyhow, I enjoyed this.)
Runner-Up:
Geico and
Bonds. I'm a sucker for humor. These two really hit the spot.
Notable entries for their cinematography and music:
Deutsche Telekom,
PSA, and
Oakley Sunglasses.
BEST PRINTThis used to be my favorite category here on BestAds. Not sure if the current batch lived up to expectations. But there are some notable pieces, both are COVID-19 related, but I judged them according to their own merit.
First
Mucinex. Simple and clean.
BEST OUTDOOR I was wondering if this category was on lockdown (sad) But if I have to choose, it's
Premiership Rugby.
BEST INTERACTIVEInteractive was the most fun category. I started from exploring a school's interactive website, to pay cuts, then a porn site. So diverse, it made my day. Thanks BestAds. (Next time when I visit this site, I'll start with this category.)
Clear winner: BK's
Pay Cut Whopper. I'm sure this created a buzz. Really amazing stunt. Maximizing what's available. Turning challenges into opportunities.
I can imagine this winning in next year's awards shows. It's really well-timed. Seeing people getting laid off or furloughed, this would somehow make them feel good. Making every order a little easier on their wallet. Makes you love the Burger King brand even more. I'll order one later, even if I'm lucky enough not to have taken a pay cut.
Runner up:
Pornhub. Really, really close No. 2. This cause is one of the most neglected ones, and I would champion it. I didn't even know August 8 is Female Orgasm Day. This campaign made me realize so many things...just kidding. But I was laughing the whole time I was watching it. It's so hilarious and brilliant at the same time.
This week's guest judge is Herbert Hernandez, founding partner at GIGIL in the Philippines.
Herbert Hernandez has been in the industry for 17 years, graduating magna cum laude with a degree in Advertising. Starting out in JWT as an art director, he was poached by DM9 where his CD work on MINI, Smart Telecommunications and the Department of Tourism scored multiple metals at Cannes and Spikes Asia.
At 32, he was named ECD of Y&R. There, he made the office win its first Agency of the Year honors, Chevron its first Cannes Lion--and the Philippines, its first-ever APAC Effies gong.
In 2017, he founded GIGIL. Just over two years old, he has powered it to win recognition from the Clios, One Show, LIA, AD STARS, ADFEST, the New York Festivals, and Creative Brief Asia THE WORK, making GIGIL one of the most decorated independent agencies in the Philippines.
Not surprisingly, Herbert is a rock star in the Philippine music industry, too. He plays guitar after-hours for the nationally renowned bands 6cyclemind and Moonstar88. He composed the one of the country's most-streamed songs 'Migraine,' which has chalked up 70 million plays, and counting.
