 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    February 10, 2025 12:32 (Edited: February 10, 2025 23:32)
BEST TV
Well this is a bit lucky - getting to judge Bestads in Super Bowl week. Righto...

https://www.bestadsontv.com/news/upload/Coors-Super-Bowl-Bestads.jpgWinner: Coors Light 'Case of the Mondays'. The sloths have it for me. Funny because, well, sloths. Nay, human-sized sloths. But also the craft is so good - just watching it makes me literally feel lethargic, in the absolute best way. The slow speed chase is a classic. But then the dropped catch at the end... chef's kiss. Also - and I know I'm only here to judge the TV - but the whole Case of the Mondays idea is much, much bigger. And one that I started liking with an unignorable, Times-Square-sized typo.

Runner-up: Squarespace 'A Tale As Old As Websites'. In the frenetic thrum of the Super Bowl - this was refreshing. That heady mix of just ridiculous humour and beautifully -crafted storytelling - and of course, set in lovely, character-filled Ireland... another chef's kiss. Hoorah for great use of celeb. Hoorah for Squarespace. Hoorah for Steve Rogers.

BEST PRINT
https://www.bestadsontv.com/news/upload/172967_1738814383_Guinness%20copy-2.jpgWinner-ish: Guinness 'Transfer that pint'. In all honesty, I didn't fall off my chair for any of the print ads this week. But I've picked this one. As a standalone print - this isn't as strong as the full activation, but hey - it's a lovely picture of Guinness, albeit in the wrong glass. Cheers. Or rather, "Slainte".

No runner-up

BEST OUTDOOR
https://www.bestadsontv.com/news/upload/Air%20France%20Holidays.jpgWinner: Air France 'Holidays'. Anyone who has worked in a category that flogs holidays or trips, knows the insight. Life is busy, tech-filled, cluttered, dull, always-bloody-on - take a break. It's true - but how to make it interesting? Air France has done it by taking the problem and solution - and delicately ramming them together in a way that cuts through the smiling-couple-holding-hands-on-romantic-beach-walks beige.

Runner-up: SPAR & EUROSPAR 'Breast check'. I wouldn't have necessarily paired an areola with a loaf of bread - but I'm here for it. It's a good play on convenience - corner store and then marking the calendar. And to know me is to know that I love a pun - so breast before dates? It's a yes from me.

BEST INTERACTIVE
https://www.bestadsontv.com/news/upload/Electrolux%20For%20Dad.jpgWinner: Electrolux 'From: Electrolux For: Dad'. Well this was quite the twist on a product demo. Rather than just selling all the different wash, suck, blend, mix, dry features and functions of their appliances, they found a whole new feature. The noise. Or the white noise gets your baby to sleep. The commitment to the idea is what I like here - leaving no channel unturned, and no baby screaming.

Runner-up: Guinness 'Transfer that pint'. Something that I've learned since moving to Ireland, is that the rituals around Guinness are quite sacred. The wrong pour, the wrong pipes, the wrong temperature - NO. WRONG. And the wrong glass? Never. So cheers to this simple, dob-yourself-in-for-your-crappy-home-glasses activation for Nitrosurge.
