Born in Nottingham, England, Mark Gilbert’s mother went into labor while his parents were watching The Graduate. His father made her stay until the end of the film before taking her to the hospital. Gilbert attended the University of Western Ontario in Canada, after which he worked as a photographer with work featured in Adbusters, Elle, Dutch, Travel and Leisure and Dwell, and received honors from The One Show and Communication Arts.
As a director, he has been featured in the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at Cannes 2004, the shots New Directors reel 2005 and the Fresh feature in the Communication Arts Advertising Annual 2005.
His campaign for Pepsi Mini Cans was short listed at Cannes and the D&AD in 2005. It won Gold at the 2004 Bessies, 2005 Marketing Awards and the 2004 ADCC, as well as two Silvers at the 2005 Andy’s. His 2004 campaign for VIFF was short listed at the Clios, won a Gold at the Marketing Awards and was featured in shots and SHOOT magazines.
