Ali Silao


Biography

Ali Silao is a Filipino art-based creative with sixteen years of solid experience in the advertising industry. He's currently the Head of Art at six-time Independent Agency of the year, Seven A.D. Before this role, he worked at TBWASantiago Mangada Puno for ten years and BBDO Guerrero for six years where he was able to learn from renowned mentors, Melvin Mangada and David Guerrero.

He took home the Philippines’ first Gold in the Young Spikes Competition in 2010. In 2013, his team gave the country its first Webby Award for a short film called “Gift of Life.” His project, Shokobutsu Hana Water Billboard won the Grand Clio award in 2015. Some of Ali's works have also been recognized in Cannes, D&AD, The One Show, LIAs, Spikes, Clio Awards, The Adfest, AMEs, Digital Asia Awards, The Boomerangs, The Ad Stars, The Adobo Design Awards, and The Kidlat Awards.

Ali was part of the 2014 and 2018 National Digital Arts Awards and the 2018 and 2021 Kidlat Craft juries. He was a competition director for The Kidlat Awards in 2016 and 2017, and was a board director for The 4A's Creative Guild of the Philippines 2020. In 2015, Ali was ranked the Philippines' #2 Art Director and #4 Creative Director in the annual Adobo Magazine Creative Rankings. In 2022, he was invited to be a jury member at the Papaya Young Creators, a unique competition and talent development program for filmmakers in Warsaw, Poland. Ali has also given numerous advertising talks in Enderun Colleges, San Beda University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, Lyceum of the Philippines, National University, the University of the Philippines Diliman, and my alma mater, the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

Ali has helped create campaigns for major local and international brands such as Globe, Smart, Snickers, M&Ms, Bench, Penshoppe, Johnnie Walker, Emperador, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Nissan, Isuzu, Ford, Del Monte, Adidas, Jolibee, KFC, SPAM®, Energizer, Department of Tourism, Facebook, Google, Unilever, and P&G, to name a few. Among his works, he's most proud of helping launch the Creative Guild x Google Jam for Good Creative Competition during the height of the Covid pandemic – a platform where all young advertising practitioners can use their creativity and ideas for a greater good.
