GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEKGuest Judge: Tony Waissmann, CCO, República Havas, MiamiThis week's guest judge is Tony Waissmann, chief creative officer at Republica Havas, Miami. Winner: Noah x PUMA 'Winning Streak'. What I liked the most was Puma, I really like the idea of inverting reality, and the "weird" are those dressed and not those naked. It seems to me that it is a way of talking about Noah de Puma's clothes, like different, irreverent, daring, free people. READ MORE Guest Judge: Kirsten Rutherford, ECD, TBWA\Chiat\Day, LAThis week's guest judge is Kirsten Rutherford, executive creative director at TBWAChiatDay, Los Angeles. Amidst spots that leaned into humor, my winner this week CrossCountry Trains 'The Longer Journey' stood out for sweet simple storytelling sharing the reason for a mother daughter day trip to the footie. Sweet without being saccharine, the spot had a quiet charm that stood out. READ MORE Guest Judge: Herbert Hernandez, founding partner, GIGILThis week's guest judge is Herbert Hernandez, founding partner at GIGIL, Philippines. Winner: Heineken 'The Feeling of Good Times' by Le Pub/Publicis Italy. Astig! In my 20 years of handling different big brands that require you to read their thick brand bibles, it's a fresh breath of air to see a brand that doesn't care how people butchered their sacred names and logos. READ MORE Guest Judge: Guy Bradbury, creative partner, M&C Saatchi, LondonThis week's guest judge is Guy Bradbury, creative partner at M&C Saatchi, London. Is it distinctive? Will people give a s**t? Does it make me slightly nervous? These are the things we look for in ideas. And there are some great examples of those things here... Winner: Burger King 'We Give up' by BBH London. READ MORE Guest Judge: Emad Khayyat, ECD, VMLY&R JordanThis week's guest judge is Emad Khayyat, executive creative director at VMLY&R Jordan. Winner: iPhone 'The Waiting Room'. Privacy does matter. In today's world, our lives are intertwined with our phones. If your data, regardless of its type, is leaked, you're essentially exposed to the public like being naked. This concept is presented in a lighthearted manner, skillfully directed and featuring a great cast. READ MORE Guest Judge: Lourenço Thomaz, CCO, Dentsu Creative, PortugalThis week's guest judge is Lourenco Thomaz, chief creative officer at Dentsu Creative, Portugal. Winner: Burger King 'A Little More Confusing'. A great follow up from an amazing concept and campaign we already knew in print ads. Very clever on updating the "Confusing Times" from adult people to even more confusing times now with children and their million questions that are in their heads all the time. Normally the follow ups are not as good as the originals but in this case everything is spot on. READ MORE Guest Judge: Ale Lauraéus, owner/CD, Studio Lauraéus, Finland

This week's guest judge is Ale Lauraeus, owner and creative director, Studio Lauraeus, Finland. Winner: IKEA 'Second best furniture'. A brilliantly executed minimalist tactical campaign with a significant underlying message: The best thing for children is the presence of their parents. READ MORE Guest Judge: Pedro Americo, ECD, McCann GermanyThis week's guest judge is Pedro Americo, executive creative director, McCann Germany. Winner: Toyota 'Toyota Kid'. Love it. It's a very funny and straight forward translation of a true insight that is taken literally. It's been a while since I haven't seen that kind of technique being applied in such a sweet way. It's made me laugh a lot. Plus the song settles the mood just right. Well done, team. READ MORE Guest Judge: Maria Devereux, Accenture Song, North AmericaThis week's guest judge is Maria Devereux, head of innovation and executive creative director at Accenture Song, North America. Winner: TNT Philippines 'Tattoo'. This film reminded me how good it feels to laugh. A simple idea that touched on a relatable pain point for anyone who hates the complexity of life admin, which as far as I can tell, is pretty much everyone. READ MORE Guest Judge: Justin Joshua, global creative lead, The LEGO GroupThis week's guest judge is Justin Joshua, global creative lead at The LEGO Group, Denmark. Winner: Wood Milk 'Got Milk?'. I recently substituted real milk for oat milk, and I enjoy it a lot especially with coffee, still this commercial with Aubrey Plaza is a gas, as she takes aim at milk substitutes threatening to gain market share over the real thing. READ MORE Guest Judge: Gary Amante, ECD, Dentsu Creative, PhilippinesThis week's guest judge is Gary Amante, executive creative director at Dentsu Creative, Philippines. Winner: Intermarche 'Lunch Box'. I like the insight - eating well is becoming more unreachable for most people. Coming from a place where food security is a recurring problem, this ad hit too close to home. READ MORE Guest Judge: Neale Horrigan, ECD, elvis, LondonThis week's guest judge is Neale Horrigan, executive creative director at elvis in London. Winner: Foundation to Combat Antisemitism 'Son'. This is pretty powerful stuff, beautifully executed. As a parent myself, the thought of having to have a conversation like this is the stuff of nightmares. But this does it in a very simple and emotive way that would give any keyboard warrior second thoughts. READ MORE Guest Judge: Joe Baratelli, CCO, RPA, Los AngelesThis week's guest judge is Joe Baratelli, chief creative officer at RPA in Los Angeles. The spots this week are big filmic eye candy. First for me. Crazy people tooling round on a scooter adding more and more danger to the fun. What? Kids do the craziest things and parents need help. And what better way than adults on a scooter, er, stepper, acting like kids If you don't remember what it was like, there is De Opvoedingslijn. (Education line for parents.) READ MORE Guest Judge: Brendan Hoffmann, ECD, Joe Public Cape TownThis week's guest judge is Brendan Hoffmann, executive creative director at Joe Public Cape Town. Winner: Magnum 'Not Available In The Metaverse'. Yes! This piece of work from LOLA MullenLowe and director Martin Werner is an exquisitely told story of the journey of an avatar, who puts on a VR headset to escape to the real world, culminating in her failed attempts to eat a Magnum ice cream. The end line 'Not available in the Metaverse' closes the story, showing there are still certain pleasures, like enjoying an ice cream, that can only be found in the real world. READ MORE Guest Judge: Frances Cooke, creative director, VMLY&R, LondonThis week's guest judge is Frances Cooke, creative director at VMLY&R London. Winner: Macpac 'This is a bit precarious'. This one made me smile! An extremely simple idea, based on a hilariously awkward situation - a bit like a classic Monty Python sketch. A fresh take on the classic 'tough fabric' tropes. A lovely way to sell some relatively boring product benefits (sorry MacPac!). READ MORE Guest Judge: Luissandro Del Gobbo, CCO, Havas, Milan
This week's guest judge is Luissandro Del Gobbo, chief creative officer at Havas, Milan.
Winner: DISCO 'Law Better'. A great script with all the right elements; funny characters, jokes with good timing, and an unlikely protagonist - Lady Justice itself - getting rid of outdated legal tech while suggesting professionals to take off their blindfold about the use of A.I. in law. A nice piece of comedy with an all-around good acting performance. READ MORE Guest Judge: Andre Sallowicz, creative partner, AMV BBDO, LondonThis week's Bestads judge is Andre Sallowicz, creative partner at AMV BBDO, London. Winner: Balter Brewery Company 'We Love a Good Beer'. Having lived in New Zealand a few years ago, I'm naturally a huge fan of the ANZ sense of humour. Balter's We Love Good Beer is so entertaining that it feels like a 30-second, not a 2:18-minute film. The production is gorgeous, and the casting is brilliant. READ MORE Guest Judge: Bec Matlioski, Associate CD, McCann New YorkThis week's guest judge is Bec Matlioski, associate creative director at McCann New York. Winner: PSA 'Fighting Talk'. I love how this spot 'Fighting Talk' from David Dealove brings a witty and stylish twist on a verbal altercation between two guys. The combination of comedy, drama and action builds up to an unexpected ending. Not to mention how incredibly shot the whole piece is. This week's guest judge is Rod Henriques, executive creative director, Grabraz & Partner, Hamburg. Winner Axe 'Oops I Forgot This at Your Place Collection'. I found this idea brilliant. It is more than a film; it's a platform. Product usage and fragrance duration done in a clever way. We're all used to see films with traditional application scenes but in this case the product plays a different and more important role. This week's guest judge is Ricardo Tramontini, creative art director at Memac Ogilvy, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Winner: CANAL+ 'Papa'. Tough to select one best TV commercial among the 6 but this one really made me smile. In addition to being very well produced, it has a pretty clever ending. It made me think it was going towards one direction and then it went to another. Also very well produced. Congrats guys. READ MORE Guest Judge: Linda Knight, CCO, Observatory, Los AngelesThis week's guest judge is Linda Knight, chief creative officer and president at Observatory, Los Angeles. Winner: Apple TV+'s 'Call Me with Timothee Chalamet'. Love this peek into the psyche of insecure Timothee Chalamet as he obsesses over all the great Apple TV+ series and movies he's not part of. This is a simple and entertaining way to show new, original content and elevate it to where an A-list actor is jealous of all the other actors on the platform. This is the third in the series, which proves how campaign-worthy the idea is. READ MORE Guest Judge: Nkanyezi Masango, Group ECD, King James, Cape TownThis week's guest judge is Nkanyezi Masango, group executive creative director, King James, (Part of Accenture Song), Cape Town. At the heart of it is a profound insight, packaged and delivered with compelling performances and beautiful filmmaking. READ MORE Guest Judge: Saffaan Qadir, CD, Paulus, South KoreaThis week's judge is Saffaan Qadir, creative director at Paulus in Seoul, South Korea. Winner: Skyn 'Explore Uncensored Pleasures'. When in doubt, show the product in its element. This is a staple of the conventional and the cookie-cutter in advertising. Favorite: Loto (French Lottery) 'Grandma'. I'm a sucker for good, simple concepts, and this one got me: "It doesn't happen only with other people" is an excellent argument for people to believe anyone can be a Lotto millionaire. It also uses an authentic, famous line: "what, did you win the lottery?" And hey, it has something in extinction: humor. Great casting and great, minimalistic photography. It was my first day off for Christmas today. And I had intended on watching Netflix. However, my youngest was having an operation on her ears. Since John Lewis began the UK's 'SuperBowl of advertising' with its Christmas campaigns back in 2007, one thing has weighed heavily on their shoulders - the public expectations for next year's spot. And yet, here we are again, 15 years later and the story keeps getting better. This week's guest judge is Vince McSweeney, chief creative officer, McCann Central. Winner: The Joshua Ribera Foundation 'Life Cut Short'. Geez. Thanks for putting me in an awkward position with this one. Yes, it's a McCann execution, but I wasn't involved with the work. I wish I had been, though. It poses the question 'what if?' and answers it in a way that leaves no doubt as to what we've all lost. It's a powerful execution that resonates well-beyond its intended target audience. READ MORE Guest Judge: Nick Morrissey, ECD/partner MIRIMAR, L.A.This week's guest judge is Nick Morrissey, executive creative director and partner at MIRIMAR Creative Group, Los Angeles. Winner: NRMA Insurance 'Duel'. This was a delight to watch. A big platform-y idea, brought to life beautifully with just the right balance of simplicity and theatricality. Offsetting the most dire of topics with playfulness and whimsy cuts through so much more than doomsday stuff. And obviously gives NRMA a never-ending role. I love the way it escalates with the score, the little moments of nature and humanity. It's a big production with elegant restraint, which is often hard. Well done all involved. I wish all ads were like this, until then, I'll be here re-watching this one. READ MORE Guest Judge: Peter Bray, founder/ECD, Bray & Co, California/NYThis week's guest judge is Peter Bray, founder and executive creative director at Bray & Co, California / New York. Winner: PodHER 'Thirst'. A short film that I hope gains the exposure it deserves, the dual narratives are sometimes too obviously alluded to, however the pacing and visuals of this brand piece combine to make a memorable, thoughtful ad. Social media needs to start changing the moronic algorithms that are censoring very human acts and attributes, and this execution smartly outplays the algorithms at their own game. This is long form done right. READ MORE Guest Judge: Toby Allen, ECD, The & Partnership, LondonThis week's Bestads judge is Toby Allen, executive creative director at The & Partnership, London. With some reference from PlayStation "Mountain" ad from 2003, "The Ball of Yarn" for Winamax got my choice as best TV of the week. Very well executed, with interesting art direction on the cat's masks and a nice idea: cats love to run after balls of yarn, nice idea to show how people love to compete and win. Also, I liked the ending showing the opposite, what cats hate the most: water. Right duration and nice build up making the engagement high.
