Fashion Revolution Germany & DETTO FATTO: The 1 Hour ShirtTop 6: July 10th 2024
What would a fair price be if we valued everyone's time the same?
11 years ago, on April 24th, the Rana Plaza textile factory in Bangladesh collapsed. Over 1,000 textile workers lost their lives. Many thought this would be a turning point in the fashion industry, and that people would change the way they consume. But there are more cheap clothing outlets than ever. Fashion Revolution Germany has been fighting for fair fashion and garment workers’ rights ever since. But they needed a way to bring attention to what’s happening in the garment industry, raise money to help those involved, and raise their profile. They needed something different, that would spread naturally and really show what they stand for. That’s why we teamed up with DETTOFATTO and created an unusual type of ad- The first T-shirt paid for in the fairest way possible. Time. It takes 1 Hour to make a 1 Hour Shirt from picking the cotton, through to delivery. Therefore, it costs consumers what they earn in 1 Hour to own. An online calculator allows people to find out what their individual price is, purchase the T-shirt and donate at the same time. Then, all that’s left for them to do is wear the shirt and spread the word (without even having to speak one).
