Following last year’s launch of The Shift 20 Initiative, an initiative focusing on increasing representation of people with disability in advertising campaigns, we found the appetite from brands to cast talent with disability in their ads was growing. However, due to a historic lack of inclusion, the talent pool of people with disability on talent agencies books was small, and we couldn’t wait for the pool to grow organically.
So, to meet immediate demand for talent with disability we bypassed the traditional casting channels to connect brands, creative agencies and casting directors directly with a new and previously unseen pool of talent with disability. In partnership with TikTok, we created the Shift 20 Casting Call and turned their platform into an open-source audition channel for talent with disability. Talent with visible or non visible disability can record and upload an audition video, showcasing their talents, skills and experiences. The channel also features explainer videos covering topics like “How to self tape”, “Industry terms” and “What to expect on set”. The Shift 20 Casting Call is now the go-to for brands, agencies and production companies to source a wealth of talent with disability.
